What will the Hygienist do?
Dental Hygienists educate patients on oral hygiene techniques to maintain healthy teeth and gums. They can counsel patients about plaque control, good oral hygiene regime at home, discuss smoking cessation and advise patients on the importance of nutrition for maintaining optimal oral health.
Hygienists check a patient’s health history, dental charting, screen for oral cancer and assess the patients gum health to discuss the best way forward for the patient. They remove plaque and calculus from above and below the gum line using dental instruments.

Why do my gums bleed?
Gums bleed due to a build-up of plaque, bacteria and calculus deposits around your teeth and it not being removed effectively when brushing and flossing. Your Hygienist can inform you on the best techniques to use to help prevent future gum issues. Healthy gums do not bleed.
